Olaogun Michael Sunkanmi
 is a Researcher, Writer, Author, Public Speaker, trained Mathematician, Educationist, and Public Policy Analyst with about a decade of experience in social development with reputable NGOs in Nigeria with a focus on Democracy and Governance Policy Reforms, Human Rights, Peace, and Security. He holds a first degree in Mathematics Education (2014) and a Master's in Public Administration (2018) both from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of Governance and Development Studies, Federal University Lokoja, Nigeria

In his quest to nourish his humanitarian passion, he undertook a professional course at the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development. He holds other short course certificates in Understanding Human Rights, Transparency, and Good Governance.

In 2017, he was recognized as an Emerging Political Leader (Office of the Special Adviser to the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria on Political Affairs in partnership with Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership, Virginia State University, (USA).

In 2018, he was awarded the most outstanding fellow of the prestigious Canvassity Pan Africa Youth Democracy FellowshipHe had the opportunity to join other young Africans to engage with the top functionaries at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on issues of bothering around youth and democracy in Africa. 

In 2019, upon invitation by the European Union Commission, he joined representatives from seven West African States to discuss: The Right to Peace in the West African States (Perspectives to Promote Peace and Security in West Africa after 2020). Likewise in 2019 led a team on UNESCO Youth Civic Engagement research in Ekiti and Kwara State.

Michael has led a team of young researchers to conduct an assessment of ACT! 2030 (youth involvement in the actualization of Sustainable Development Goals) agenda implementation in Oyo state Nigeria which was overseen by the National Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with Education as a Vaccine.  

In 2020, Michael served as a Legislative Intern at the National Assembly of Nigeria (House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Reforms) under the coordination of the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre with support from the European Union.  

Michael was enlisted as a member of the Ekiti State Steering Committee on Open Government Partnership. He is also one of the 20 young Nigerians selected by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands for the 2021 Orange Corners Incubation Program. He served as a Research Assistant for the Centre for the Study of Economies in Africa and volunteer community lead, Amnesty International Nigeria (Kwara State).

He has worked as a Program Officer at the Women Environment and Youth Development Initiative and New Initiative for Social Development and as a Programs Associate (Legislative Accountability Projects) for OrderPaper Nigeria. He is a Program Officer at the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy, and Development where he manages the policy component of the Community Initiative to Promote Peace (CIPP) funded by the USAID across seven states in northern Nigeria. Through the project, he has worked with other stakeholders to actualize the under-listed law: 

Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (Kogi State)
Benue Commission for Peace and Reconciliation (Benue State)
Community Conflict and Dispute Resolution Centre (Katsina State)
Kano State Drugs and Substance Abuse Management Bill (Kano State)

He has managed and participated in the implementation of other projects funded by the World Bank, the European Union, The Girls Generation, and Mundo Cooperante.

Michael is the co-founder of  TakeCover. A digital platform that seeks to bridge the gaps in the Universal Health Coverage. He is a certified Project Management Professional by the Project Management Professional Institute and a member of the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria.

He is no stranger to issues around Youth Participation in Africa’s Democratic Process. His research spans Nigeria’s Budgeting, Health, Education, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). He has authored several articles (scholarly and opinion) addressing youth and leadership, democracy, and governance within Nigeria, Africa, and the Global context. He has delivered lectures at different forums and attended workshops locally and internationally. He mentors several young people across Africa.
