As Nigeria gravitates toward the 2027 general elections, the wave of unregulated force of artificial intelligence is quietly and gradually reshaping the political landscape. While AI promises efficiency, innovation and economic growth, its darker applications , particularly in the political arena pose s a serious threat to the credibility and stability of Nigeria’s staggering democracy. The concern is no longer hypothetical as the e vidence from Nigeria’s 2023 elections and global electoral cycles shows that AI-driven disinformation is evolving fast as it is dramatically lower ing the barrier to producing convincing false content.   Across social media platforms, fake videos, cloned voices and AI-generated images are being created cheaply and circulated widely. Interestingly , AI-generated media contents are becoming so realistic that distinguishing truth from fabricat ed lies often required expert analysis rather than common sense.  In Nigeria, where social ...

The Nigeria’s fiscal process has been throne into a state of confusion since the assumption of President Bola Tinubu as the President. The nation's fiscal management has struggled with consistency leading to the overlapping budgets of 2024, 2025 and 2026 which was recently passed by the National Assembly. This act highlight s a deeper, more troubling pattern , one that raises serious questions about planning, discipline and the government’s commitment to effective economic governance. Across the world and i n principle, a budget is meant to operate within a single fiscal year, providing a clear road-map for revenue generation and public spending. Since 2024, the reality has been far from this ideal. The 2024 budget cycle extended well into 2025, with capital projects and releases still ongoing even as the 2025 budget was being implemented. Now, as the 2026 budget comes into focus, the country finds itself juggling three fiscal frameworks at once , each competing for atten...

Nigeria today increasingly reflects the dangerous symptoms of state capture.    Nigerians have become so accustomed to stories of corruption, insecurity, judicial manipulation among others, that many now treat as normal. But the deeper crisis is that public institutions themselves are gradually losing independence and becoming instruments of elite survival rather than guardians of public interest. Across the country, there is a growing perception that institutions which should serve as checks on executive excesses are becoming weaker. The legislature often appears more interested in political alignment than robust oversight. Regulatory agencies are frequently accused of selective enforcement. Anti-corruption campaigns are sometimes seen through partisan lenses. Even the judiciary, which should remain the final hope of the ordinary citizen, increasingly faces public skepticism whenever politically sensitive judgments are delivered. While many may have perceived state ca...

By Olaogun Michael  No matter the agony on earth, Jesus shall come. No matter the enjoyment on earth, Jesus shall come. No matter your affinity with your family, Jesus shall come. No matter your wealth, Jesus shall come. No matter the betrayal, Jesus shall come. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?… Chorus: Are you washed in the blood, In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb? Are your garments spotless?  Are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Be a ready BRIDE. Jesus shall come again.

By Olaogun Michael  By my definition, time is life and life is time. Life is the greatest gift God has given to all creatures. God our creator understands the importance of time in the scheme of things according to the book of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. In the time of creation, God spent time putting things in place for the benefit of man who was the last creature.  Unfortunately, of all the creatures of the creator, man which has dominion over all other creatures happens to be the one who has failed the purpose of its creation. Why? Because man has failed to use time effectively and judiciously. Time has the following features: pleasure, death, sorrow, happiness, success, failure, and so on. Most, unfortunately, time in its features has no recovery or backup. The latest technologies have in them backups, we make photocopies, we save on memory cards, we save on our emails and in our bank accounts but technology has never developed any mechanism to save time because time is MYST...

By Olaogun Michael Sunkanmi Earlier in the week, I shared my thoughts on No doubt, there is an improvement in Nigeria's electoral process, but there are still fundamental challenges. An effort was made by ๐‹๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐”๐ฆ๐š๐ซ ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐š ๐˜๐š๐ซ'๐š๐๐ฎ๐š to change the nation's electoral narrative that led to the  ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐”๐ฐ๐š๐ข๐ฌ ๐„๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐‘๐ž๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ž ๐‘๐ž๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ. Unfortunately, successive governments in Nigeria never recognized the 319-page report.  Profoundly, Item 1.2, Page 1 of the document reads. "Nigeria's experience with democratic elections since independence has been rather mixed. Although the country has managed to transit from one administration to another, hardly any election conducted in the country has been completely free of charges of irregularities, electora...

Climate Change: A “Perpetual Pandemic” in Disguise and the Way Forward

Image
By Olaogun Michael Sunkanmi  Overview Amidst unprecedented global challenges ranging from economic hardship to military takeover in some parts of Africa to the Russian-Ukraine and Israel-Gaza wars, conversation continues on the “war” of nature against man—climate change. This is a result of the intended and unintended actions of man against the environment. Climate change has not only posed threats to the human and animal environment; it is also a major contributor to food insecurity and inter-community and violent conflicts globally, more specifically in the Sahel region, leading to human and animal displacements caused by sea level rise, degradation, drought, erosion, flooding, and desertification. The National Climate Change Policy (2021-2030) asserts that “climate change is a complex environmental problem because of its long-term uncertain timeframe, scales of occurrence, differential impacts and vulnerabilities, as well as equity and justice within the global power asymmetries...
